Talk about burying the headline. If you turn this bottle around, written in very small letters next to the word 'AUSLESE' you'll find the letters 'GK'. This mysterious, inconspicous designation stands for goldkapsel, or gold cap. In Germany it has long been a practice for producers to put gold foil around the top of the bottlings they deem to be their finest. But Heymann-Lowenstein, the exceptional Mosel producer, eschews the gold foil altogether and decides to relegate this very important piece of information to the back label. While this modesty is impressive, it only accentuates how unbelievable this wine really is. Viscous and sweet, this riesling is dripping with citrus marmalade, apricot, honey and hints of cinnamon and spice. A stunning wine of the highest quality.
